This 2-session class (September 15 & 22) combines a general weaving introduction with hands-on setup and weaving techniques.
In the 1st class, you will be coached through direct-warping (with the included peg) the rigid heddle loom and be starting to weave before you leave the first session.
In the 2nd session, there’ll be a review, discuss additional techniques and problem-solving as desired, including managing neat selvedges, choosing appropriate yarns for particular projects, calculating yarn requirements, removing the project from the loom, and wet finishing woven fabric, amongst others.
Registration cost does not include materials.

These concepts will also be taught in the larger context of weaving that’s been practiced in numerous cultures for thousands of years. You’ll learn some of the basic terminology and approaches which apply to a variety of looms, so you can choose to build on this knowledge with multi-shaft or tapestry looms in future workshops.

You will need warping and weaving materials; we recommend that you bring 2-4 partial or full balls of sock-weight, fingering, or (preferably) worsted weight yarn.

Take your weaving skills to the next level with this workshop, where Siobhan Kelleher from Boston Wool Works will guide you through making a set of four coordinated hand towels while learning techniques such as calculating yarn required for a project, multiple color warps and wefts, hem stitching, waffle weave, and wet finishing/washing. Because of the techniques we’re using, you will literally walk away with four completed towels that just need to be washed! In addition, you will learn to make color and design decisions and apply your skills to a final “weaver’s choice” towel where you choose your favorite techniques to make a unique towel.
You can use your own rigid heddle loom or borrow one from the shop.
Pre-requisite: Intro to Traditional Weaving workshop or equivalent experience (to be confirmed by the instructor).
