DESCRIPTION:Do you have old sweaters that are no longer in style but are holding gorgeous yarn hostage? All of our closets\, attics\, and basement\, not to mention local thrift stores\, are great sources for some fun yarn experimentation and exploration. In this class\, we’ll do a hands-on tour of the full process\, including tips for selecting an appropriate sweater\, deconstruction techniques for maximum yarn harvest and minimum frustration\, proper washing and winding techniques for various materials\, how to prep your yarn for knitting/crochet/weaving\, and project ideas for using your freshly-harvested yarn (some sample pieces will be shared). Each participant will apply the techniques to their own sweater during the class\, and a lively discussion is encouraged. \nRecommended tools: small sharp-pointed and large sturdy scissors\, spare double-pointed knitting needle or small crochet hook\, ball winder\, and self-winding swift or niddy-noddy. \nBring a sweater of your own to recycle or for a $10 materials fee we’ll provide a suitable washed sweater.

Browse through household items such as ceramics\, metal sculptures\, and several different types of wood creations. Shop our classic and new vendors as well as our Temple Isaiah Judaica Shop. \nWe also sell homemade lunches\, snacks and desserts. \nProceeds from the Marketplace benefit over 50 charities\, from hospices to women’s shelters and breast cancer research\, as well as Israeli and international Jewish organizations. \nThe Sisterhood Holiday Marketplace is open to the general public.

DESCRIPTION:In two sessions\, we’ll try a bit of each of a series of weaving techniques to create a sampler on the Schacht Cricket rigid heddle loom. Techniques will include the following: \n\nHem stitching at beginning and end\nWarp floats\nWeft floats\nLace\nAdding a third dimension\nSoumak\nEmbroidery/needlework on the loom\nFringe techniques\n\nYou’ll be encouraged to bring a variety of materials to play with and share with other students\, and you’ll get instructions before the class on setting up the loom. You’ll need to show up to the first class with your loom already properly warped. \nMaterials: You will need to warp your loom ahead of class with a 2.5 yard warp. If you need to borrow a loom\, please contact us to make arrangements.
