Have you ever seen beautiful yarn trapped in a hideous sweater and had an urge to set it free to have a happier life? It can be fun and rewarding to liberate this yarn and transform it for use in knitting, crochet, weaving, felting, and other crafts. In this hands-on class, you’ll learn sweater-to-yarn techniques for disassembling commercial sweaters, including tips for selecting an appropriate sweater, tricks for undoing seams, deconstruction techniques for maximum yarn harvest and minimum frustration, proper washing and winding techniques for various materials, how to prep your yarn for knitting/crochet/weaving, etc., and project ideas. Your registration includes a sweater you’ll work on deconstructing in class, but feel free to bring your own for analysis.
